Cristian Gavril, the CEO of Ecotron, was invited to speak at the Romanian ESG Summit, one of the most important events dedicated to sustainability in Romania. In his speech, Cristian addressed the real and often overlooked challenges in the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) recycling industry.
Besides the lack of public awareness and the still deficient infrastructure, Cristian highlighted a structural problem with a major impact: the management of working capital and cash flow within collective organizations (OTRs). The lack of liquidity, especially in the case of mature organizations, generates systemic risks, ultimately affecting the producers and importers who financially support this mechanism.
Although the regulatory framework tries to address certain dysfunctions – such as inaccurate reporting of future obligations or the lack of accounting provisions – the fundamental problem remains: the way the mechanism for achieving collection obligations is regulated.
We thank CSRmedia.ro, Lăcrămioara Botezatu, and Gabriela Fistiș for the opportunity to contribute a relevant voice to the debate about the sustainable future of the industry. Ecotron remains dedicated to finding sustainable, efficient, and fair solutions – both for the environment and for the partners who believe in change.
